Sunday School

Sunday School at Reid Memorial

Sunday school for all ages begins every Sunday morning at 9:30am and ends at 10:15am. Nursery care is provided during this time. We invite your whole family to join us as we learn through exploring the bible.

Adult Sunday School: 9:30-10:15am

Cornerstones: Foundations of Faith Class – Room 226
This class is for individuals seeking to examine and strengthen the foundations of their faith though study, fellowship and service. Designed for those who are new to the faith, new to Reid Memorial or those just wanting to take a fresh look at the root of our Christian faith, Cornerstones will enhance your spiritual walk from the ground up. Nadine Ellsworth-Moran will be primarily responsible for teaching through 5/20/18 on “The Minor Prophets.”

Beyond the Upper Room – Room 230
This class offers an in depth teaching of God’s Word. The purpose of this class is for members to grow in their knowledge of Scripture; walk more closely with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ; to be knit together in community with one another; and to live out the gospel as we serve our church and community. Christian Lemmon and Jerry Howington will be leading the class, with the focus on the Book of Acts through 5/20/18.

The Heart of Marriage – Room 228
This class offers a Biblically-based guide to marriage, with a particular focus on Jesus Christ’s foundation for couples and their families. Scott and Harriet Monnig will be leading this class, with the current focus remaining on ““Marriage: Built to Last” through 5/20/18.

Covenant Class – Mary Read Room
The Bible is the textbook for this friendly, loving community of believers. Using the Bible as the foundation for weekly discussions, this class seeks to incorporate Biblical truths into daily life. Bill Davidson continues to lead this class in the study of God’s word. The current focus is on Paul’s Letter to the Philippians through 5/20/18.

Summer Jubilee Ideas: Given the positive response over the past two summers to the film review series, a decision was made to continue with this effort. The committee decided to go with a film series “The Good News According to Disney.” We will make an effort to include some of our younger adults in the provision of these lessons, and also encourage the leaders to pair up with one of our youth/college-age members in the presentations. Joy Weigle is taking primary responsibility for getting teachers for the lessons with Christian helping as needed. Summer Jubilee dates include all Sundays from 6/3/18 through 8/5/18. Joy has study guides that will be available to the teachers. She is also in the process of finding some other study materials for teachers requesting such. If interested in teaching one of these Sunday school classes this summer, please contact Joy in the church office.

Youth Sunday School:

The youth (middle and high school) meet each Sunday morning at the Alan Fuqua Center.

Discussion and interaction are centered around a Biblical passage or theme. Learn how Christ is a part of your everyday life, not just on Sunday.

The children's ministry at Reid Memorial combines fun with learning in ways that enable children to interact and develop Christ-like relationships. This ministry strives to reach, teach and equip children of all ages to become authentic followers of Christ. All children are encouraged to grow through a hands-on approach to worship, service, prayer and study. Leading children to Christ is our top priority!

Children's Sunday School

  • Preschool - Room 106
  • K,1 and 2 Room 210
  • 3,4 and 5 Room 211

Beginning in August through May, Kindergarten--5th Sunday school classes are using a lectionary based curriculum by Spark House. Each age level provides comprehensive, accessible biblical background for teachers.. We hope this curriculum leads to conversations at home about what is being taught and learned in Sunday school. This curriculum begins with a solid and theological base for the leaders and learners to look deeper. It utilizes a common Bible passage for all learners, making it easier for families to learn and live out their faith together.
